Power to Play Assistance Fund

Power to Play Assistance Fund Guidelines

The Collingwood Girls Hockey Association is committed to ensuring that financial circumstances do not become a barrier to participation. Through the Power to Play Assistance Fund, our goal is to provide meaningful support to families while maintaining a sustainable program that allows us to assist as many players as possible.

The Power to Play Assistance Fund reflects our belief that every player should have the opportunity to experience the benefits of hockey, including skill development, confidence, teamwork, friendships, and a sense of belonging within our Lightning community.

All requests for assistance are reviewed confidentially by the Financial Assistance Committee and considered on an individual basis.

Assistance Guidelines

In general, the Committee will consider:

  • Up to 25% of registration fees for families requiring moderate financial assistance.
  • Up to 50% of registration fees for families experiencing greater financial hardship.

As our membership continues to grow and the demand for assistance increases, providing 100% registration support is not sustainable as a standard practice. Establishing these guidelines allows the Association to support a greater number of families while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Power to Play Assistance Fund.

Exceptional Circumstances

The Collingwood Girls Hockey Association recognizes that every family's circumstances are unique, and there may be situations where additional consideration is required.

In exceptional circumstances, the Financial Assistance Committee may review requests that fall outside the general assistance guidelines. These situations may include significant and unforeseen financial hardship, major changes in family circumstances, or other factors that substantially impact a family's ability to participate.

Requests requiring additional consideration will be reviewed confidentially and determined on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the family's circumstances, available funding, and the Association's ability to continue supporting players throughout our organization.

The intent of this flexibility is not to replace the established guidelines, but to ensure the Association can respond compassionately when extraordinary circumstances arise.

Registration and Fundraising Considerations

Families receiving support through the Power to Play Assistance Fund are still expected to complete the registration process, including the annual raffle fundraiser commitment.

Families participate in the raffle fundraiser by purchasing their allocated $200 in raffle tickets and are able to recoup those funds through ticket sales. This provides an opportunity to offset a portion of their overall hockey costs while also supporting the programs and opportunities available to Lightning players.

Families are also encouraged to explore any additional community or external financial assistance programs available to them.

Our Commitment

The Power to Play Assistance Fund is made possible through the generosity of our Lightning community. The Financial Assistance Committee is committed to reviewing every request with compassion, fairness, and confidentiality.

Our goal is simple: to help ensure that as many girls as possible have the opportunity to play, grow, and thrive as part of the Collingwood Lightning.
